In a Kingdom By the Sea

Two contrasting and yet thematically consistent inspirations drove the imagination, mood and style of the images, the first being the Calypso and her relationship with Davy Jones as depicted in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie At World’s End and the second one is the poem Annabelle Lee by Edgar Allan Poe. At Deepshutter, that is how it begins and then Sourodeep and Debarati spend time casting for models, meticulously handpicking the wardrobe, jewelry and accessories. The creation process also involves working closely with the makeup artist to guide the art of the looks as well as working with artists and light directors to turn the set from vision to reality.

This body of work demanded extreme efforts from the entire team involved; the models and the MUA who travelled a long distance to meet the Deepshutter team from Toronto to Windsor, Ontario. Sourodeep himself spent many sleepless early mornings leading up to the day of the shoot, ended up taking naps on set while makeup was underway. It was an intense, enterprising and joyful experience.
